Prayers for the people of Brazil:  God said "Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand  (Isaiah 41:10 NLT).    And God will raise us from the dead by his power, just as he raised our Lord from the dead. (1 Corinthians 6:14)"

Elsewhere, such a prominently featured religious symbol might be cause for controversy. But at Hopkins Hospital, "Christus Consolator" has managed to defy its traditional symbolism and garner respect from nearly all who pass. Long a source of solace and hope for patients and families, the Christ statue also has meaning for hundreds of employees. Jesus Christ came into the world t o save you from all your sinners. It does not have anything to do with being good. For immediate release: 30 June 2010 The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit has denounced the extrajudicial killings of Benjamin Bayles and Jovelito Agustin, both lay ministers of the Philippine Independent Church. In a 29 June letter to President-elect Benigno Aquino III, Tveit urged "the Philippines government to keep its commitment to international human rights instruments and put an end to the killings and to the culture of impunity by prosecuting the perpetrators and granting justice to the victims of human rights violations". Aquino is being inaugurated today. He succeeds Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. Bayles and Agustin were "active lay ministers, known in their churches as outspoken advocates of human dignity and of the rights of the most marginalized", Tveit stated.
